Counterweight Productions Approaches $20,000 in Initial Round ofFunding on for Brazilian Soccer Films, "Beautiful Game"

WILTON, CT /March, 2015-- Counterweight Productions , a new independent film production and distribution company from the United States,  founded and managed by John Ruane, 11-time Emmy award-winning producer, formerly with NBC Sports, has raised nearly $20,000 in the first round of an aggressive $50,000 fundraising effort through Indiegogo for its first feature-length film in the 4-part series, "Beautiful Game."

Ruane's beautifully filmed trailer focuses on some of the key values of Brazilian soccer--joy, passion, improvisation and greatness. It will be notable for its behind the scenes lookout some of Brazil’s greatest players and soccer figures.

Using original footage, interviews, and intimate story-telling, the Beautiful Game documentary series will offer a fresh, penetrating analysis of the interrelationship between the well-known national obsession with soccer (football) and other fundamentals of Brazilian life; exposing cross currents that lie beneath the surface and piercing myths that have attained the status of conventional wisdom.

Ruane envisions The Beautiful Game series with the following films: Part 1, “The Epic Romance”, examines the intricate dynamics at play in next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the first ever held in Brazil. Brazil has never won Olympic gold and many view this achievement not merely as a mechanism for redemption from Brazil’s ignominious defeat at the hands of the German team last year, but as an important step on the road to the real prize for Brazilian fans - the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The year 2015 finds Brazil mired in recession and corruption scandle. Part 2, "Shadow Game", casts a floodlight on the undervaluedworld of women’s’ soccer by focusing on the life and career of Brazilian superstar Marta. Part 3 ,“Corinthians”, tells the thrilling story of the legendary São Paulo club.  Part 2, “Kissing the Cup”, offers a dramatic profile of the iconic player Carlos Alberto Torres and his descendants.

John Ruane founded Counterweight Productions to distribute high quality, meaningful films that generate social impact to an international audience. Counterweight will also produce its own content as part of its offerings.  Ruane is an 11-time Emmy Award winning producer with 30 years in the media business, including 20 years at NBC Sports.
